A serious Canada recruitment agency never charges you for a job offer and never sells you a visa or an approval. The red flags to watch for
Many job scams targeting Moroccan candidates follow the same pattern: an offer that looks excellent, artificial urgency, and a request for money before any real verification. The following signals come up again and again.
- You are asked to pay for a job offer, or to pay 'processing fees' in exchange for a visa or permit presented as a sure thing.
- You are promised approval as a sure thing or a certain outcome — no serious agency can promise the decision of an immigration authority.
- There is no written contract, or the contract keeps changing depending on who you speak to.
- The entire relationship happens only on WhatsApp or private messages, with no verifiable business address and no contact identified by full name.
- You are pressured hard to decide or pay very quickly, often in the evening or on a weekend.
- The named employer cannot be found independently, or its website and contact details do not match what you were shown.
How to check an employer and an offer
Before moving forward, take the time to verify the employer yourself, independently of what the intermediary showed you. Search the company name on the official business registry of the relevant province, and look for a coherent public presence (website, address, real activity).
A Canadian job offer for a foreign worker often relies on a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA). This assessment is issued by the federal government to the employer, not to the candidate, and an employer hiring legally can explain clearly which route their offer falls under. A serious agency can point you to the official information on the IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) website to situate your file, without ever replacing that official source.
How to check an immigration consultant
In Canada, only certain professionals may represent a client before immigration authorities and charge for that service: lawyers licensed by a Canadian law society, notaries in Quebec for some files, and regulated consultants registered with the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants (CICC). The CICC public register lets you verify, by the consultant's name, that they are actually registered and in good standing.
If someone presents themselves as an immigration consultant but refuses to give their full name, or their name does not appear in the register, treat that as a serious warning sign, whatever the offer looks like.
